Female here. I think you should have to ask her. If she says it's okay then okay. But for me it's so weird. I got hugged by an ASO (school's alumni) before without proper consent from my side. I got so creeped out by the guy.
Why does anyone need to hug anyone unless you are really close friends and socially interact outside work many times.
In business school, a hug was a woman's way of saying hi. In the corporate world, I'd never initiate a hug nor have I really seen this done.

I would say if they're current coworkers it's generally fine if female analyst initiates, but kinda odd. If former coworkers and female analyst initiates, totally fine.
Most circumstances where male senior initiates = inappropriate
I'm a male analyst and this was a female director so granted it's opposite, but even the reverse I think would be appropriate. We had just been on this rollercoaster of a buyside. At the last possible second, after thinking we didn't make it, we found out we were the winning bid. The whole team immediately hugged each other.
