Senior Bankers how Do You Keep Networking Connections Warm?
I’m a first-year analyst and have met a lot of people through networking during SA, FT, and now at the start of my career. But I’m struggling with keeping these connections warm—I never quite know what to say! It’s not like I can just text, “Hey, just closed three deals!”
For those with more experience, how do you maintain connections with people? How often do you reach out, and what kinds of updates or conversations feel appropriate? I want to find a good balance between staying in touch and oversharing, but I’m not sure what that looks like.
I struggled with this in college too, and one of my biggest regrets is not keeping in touch with more people. I try to update connections every 5-6 months, usually by sending an interesting article, congratulating them on a promotion, or something industry-related. But now I’m at a point where it feels like just sending another “keep in touch” email might not be enough. Should I try asking for a call? And if so, what would we even talk about?
Any tips on what’s worked well for you in keeping up with people? Thanks in advance!
