Series 79 - Not passing practice exams
I’m taking the S79 on Friday and can’t pass the practice exams. can anyone offering insights or advice on what I can do to best prep between now and then? I was going to just continue taking and reviewing practice exams
If you're struggling to pass the Series 79 practice exams and the test is just around the corner, here are some actionable tips based on the most helpful WSO content:
Focus on High-Yield Topics:
Write out and review the major topics that are frequently tested, such as:
These areas are critical, and understanding them can help you eliminate incorrect answers during the exam.
Review Incorrect Answers:
When reviewing practice exams, focus on the questions you got wrong. Understand why the correct answer is right and why your choice was incorrect. This will help you identify patterns in your mistakes and avoid them on test day.
Leverage Word Associations:
Use word associations to connect concepts. For example:
Don’t Overcomplicate:
Some questions in the QBank can be overly specific or unnecessarily complicated. Focus on understanding the core concepts rather than getting bogged down by overly detailed or niche questions.
Knopman Resources:
If you have access to Knopman materials, prioritize their videos, workbooks, and QBank. These are highly recommended by others who have successfully passed the Series 79.
Time Management:
With only a few days left, allocate your time wisely:
Stay Calm and Confident:
Remember, the Series 79 is challenging but manageable. Focus on understanding the material at a high level and trust your preparation.
Good luck on Friday! You've got this!

The worst thing you can do is overthink this test- practice exams tend to be tougher. Take a deep breath, review key concepts and trust your instincts. Good luck.
Thanks for the advice. Will do
Passed this morning. This is the best advice I got. For those worried that might be looking back on this thread, just put in the work by taking practice exams, keep your head up, and get a good nights rest.
Appreciate your help!
If you spend actual time studying the 79 and can’t pass you have the IQ of a McChicken
keep taking practice tests and reviewing the results.
DEI or nepotism?
I was on the edge with my practice exams, but passed all the real exams. The practice exams are slightly harder, probably have like a 5-10% buffer built in
That’s what I’m hoping for. I’m like within -4/+2 of passing on all my practice exams. It’s stressful
I found this to be true. Thanks for the tip
Have you just not studied? I studied for 24 hours over the course of one weekend after communicating to my vp that I was in danger of failing that exam if I didn’t study for a full weekend. Lmao. So that’s what I would recommends this was was for the 63 but same idea.
Love the username. I studied a good amount but crammed the last 5 chapters plus all practice exams in the last few days
Word. Do you have knopman marks? Idk if I even did any practice tests. I just did the questions in that study guide over and over. There are a lot of parallels between those and the questions on the actual test, make sure you read that twice. Then a few of the 79 questions are just finance math that you actually will just know. I would make sure you pass them so create time to study.
