Should HR know?
Hey guys,
I have a semester off before I start FT, and my friends and I are planning on backpacking another country for the next two months. Long question short, should I let HR know that I won't physically be in the country (jic for background checks, drug tests, etc etc)?

Yes.
Just send a simple email telling them when ur leaving and when you will be back. This way, they are aware that you're not around during X time.
