Should I take an unpaid internship?

Hi,

I've been looking for a way to break into Wall Street as soon as I graduated last year January with 2 bachelors in finance and marketing. I've worked in market research in logistics. Now I'm in a bank as a personal banker.

Since I need the money I took jobs that required my degrees.

I'm offered an unpaid investment banking internship With a boutique firm on Wall Street.

Would it be a good idea to leave my steady paid job to do that unpaid internship? Will it open my doorway?

If you can support yourself then it is a great idea! Breaking into the industry is no low hanging fruit. It's tough. If you're given the opportunity even it is unpaid, then take it. It will only help. I know a guy that took an unpaid internship for a boutique shop in Palo Alto. After just months he got this bank that doesn't take any analysts to pay him in a rare FT slot. It's definitely worth it. I can't do it mostly because there is not really any way for me to support myself while not getting paid to work
