sign-on bonus retention?
Has anyone heard of sign-on bonuses given with a clause that basically says to be paid sometime within the next 12 months? A friend of mine is changing places and has something like that.
To me this is very strange, b/c I got mine when I started right away.
edit: my other guess is that it's a fuckup by some HR drone
Are you sure it's not stating that if he quits within the next month that he has to pay it back? All sign on bonuses I've ever seen or heard of you receive on or before you begin the job with the stipulation that you must stay with the firm for 12 months, otherwise you have to pay it back (pre-tax, so you lose money in the situation).
Yeah, that's what it said, "will be paid by xxx date", it wasn't about paying it back if you leave (that was my first thought as well)
It has actually been sorted out since - turns out it was a mistake after all
sorry I meant "within the next 12 months"
