Does it have datatables in it?

If so, make sure to turn off the auto compute for data tables.

Thanks, that was the first thing I did. Have it selected as 'calculate except data tables'

Funny thing is that its not a very large or complex model. Just 4 segment P&Ls, segment BS, CFS and a credit statistics page, but all on different pages

You can turn calculations off

Try this: delete all empty columns off the right edge of each page, and all empty rows off the bottom of the page. Check everything that's left for conditional formatting.

I once had a model that was ballooning in size (>100MB) and running very slowly due to some weird conditional formatting going on in the empty cells.

make sure no funny or busted macros are running in your model.

You could also have an overload of named ranges, etc.

If you have Excel 2007:

1. Alt+M, N (Formulas Ribbon --> Name Manager)
2. Sort by "Refers to"
3. Delete all #REFs
4. Delete anything you don't recognize, like random file paths
5. Keep anything you added yourself, like a print range or a named cell
