so what happens if HR knows you're choosing another firm?
So I've read that you're supposed to keep mum about what firm you're choosing. In my case I was stupid when deciding between offers. When HR from one bank asked me why I was taking so long I told them I was choosing between two banks, and gave her the names. I rejected the offer from the HR person, and she was pissed. I mean, this is for the summer analyst position, what's the worst that could happen? I don't think anything too bad can happen; it's not like I reneged or anything, but then again becuase everyone is saying to keep mum, not sure...
Don't listen to the HR bullshit (common theme here with the other threads). You never promised them anything and went with what was best for you. I would tell them exactly that if they keep hassling you. I would really stand my ground and push back if they remain aggressive.
You were entirely within your rights--you didn't reneg. You told them you were considering two offers and decided to choose the other one. The worst that could happen is that your recruiting opportunities at that particular bank suffer for the next year.
