So you didn't secure an intern offer, now what?

After hundreds of LinkedIn DMs, emails, informational interviews, coffee meetings, a handful of first round interviews, and a few super days, you unfortunately still didn't secure an intern offer. Please do not lose hope on the next 30-40 years of your career. The door to high finance is not shut. There are still many paths to break in, if that is what you truly want.

Step 1 (year 1-2)

  • Accounting firm (deal advisory, transaction services, consulting)
  • FP&A rotational program / Corp development analyst
  • Corporate banker / Commercial banker

Step 2 (year 2-4)

  • LMM IB analyst
  • Maybe get lucky and land a MM IB analyst

Step 3 (Year 4-5)

  • LMM PE Associate
  • Up-tier IB as a Senior Analyst --> 2 years get promoted internally --> then recruit for MM PE Associate
  • Top 10 B-School

So by ~27, you could still be in a position to pursue a long career with a great IB or nice sized fund. Will it suck still being a grunt at 27, no doubt. But if this is the career you really want to be in long-term, you can still make it happen. All is not lost.
