Solid performance review w/ strong / strong overall but bottom bucket bonus? (A1)

Received a pretty good performance review with no obvious “fails” but still got bottom bucket bonus?? My ego is bruised and I thought based on my culture/values ratings on top of positive feedback I would be at middle (I received strong / strong). Am I missing something here / is my job at risk???

I am so sorry bro. I know how painful it is when you get only positive feedback and then they lowball you on bonus. Nothing is worse.

You’re not missing anything. Your team is not interested in rewarding you for your contribution. You can ask them for an explanation, and I’m sure they’ll say some nice words, but I don’t think it changes the facts.

It sucks. I would start planning your exit. You got this.

Confirm with peers this was bottom however.

I had a great review last year and then got a bonus i felt like was bottom bucket.

Finally asked peers in my group what they got and they got the same bonus.

Turns out my bank just sucks lol.

What kind of bank are you guys all at (BB/small boutique), and what location?

Happens frequently from what I’ve seen tbh. A lot of people even in banking hate the “tough conversations” and would rather just blow smoke up your ass. Then they hope you might not be well connected enough to know what others’ got so you might stay while getting paid nothing. It’s a win-win for them since there’s minimal to no chance of analysts actually confronting them about it.
