Soph - Aim for boutique IB, BB Risk, or other to best position myself for BB SA junior summer?

Hey everyone,

I'm currently a sophomore at a Non-target/Semi-target just outside of Manhattan with a fairly strong presence in BB IBD positions. I'm really hoping to get an SA position my junior summer and don't know what to aim for in order to best position myself. I can try and network asap with people in BB's and hope to get an internship in Risk, Treasury, Internal Audit, etc. for soph summer and it helps that there is a good amount of OCR for these positions (2 Info Sessions/career fairs with multiple banks within next month so I gotta move quick.)

Another option is simply cold calling and cold emailing boutique ib's a near or after BB recruiting deadlines hoping that they need an intern. I can't seem to find any alumni in boutiques so networking with those individuals is out of the picture.

Lastly, one of my other options is doing either BB Risk Mgmt or boutique IB assuming I can get an internship for one of them and potentially getting a fall/spring 15hr/wk internship junior year since my school is so close to the city.

Overall, I'm really ambitious and just need that little extra push of guidance in one direction and I'll do whatever it takes to make that path work. That little bit of guidance is what I'm hoping fellow WSO primates can bring to the table. Thanks in advance to anyone that contributes!

no need to wait until BB deadlines. Start cold-calling / networking with boutiques now. that way if BB recruiting falls through, you'll be ahead of the curve.

Also look at regional MM IBs.
