Sophmore Year Part Time Internship

I got to a target with a high GPA, however, I do not have many past financial experiences. I am currently networking to find an IB internship at a boutique for my sophomore year summer to better position myself for my junior year summer recruiting which happens second semester sophomore year. However, I would still like a genuine finance experience before my recruiting starts that I can actually talk about. What do kids in these positions do?

Should I try to find a small winter break boutique internship? I've also been suggested to find a part-time virtual internship from a search fund. Do people do any other virtual internships? Would I just cold email the firm and ask to work unpaid part-time? That's what I am leaning towards at the moment. Any thoughts?
