Sophomore IB path
I'm a freshman at a target right now and I have a boutique ib summer internship lined up. I was wondering what I should be looking/thinking about in terms of next year (sophomore year summer) if I want to ultimately get a FT offer at a BB.
try your luck at bb or better boutique
Look for a sophomore bb program if you're really into it. In all honesty you can even do something you just find interesting. If you have a good useful experience this summer, I'm sure you can spin that into your story, and you have a lot of opportunities left as just a freshman.
That's great that you have some IB lined up. A lot of the sophomore programs cater to minorities so whether or not you're in that boat they may suit you. It's fairly difficult to get a soph internship at a BB but with the right work experience your freshman year and a helpful connection (you're at a target, use the alumni network) I've seen it happen plenty. One of my friends did his sophomore summer at GS thanks to a good reference.
You are sitting pretty good right now. Look into some BB's for next summer.
In terms of what I should be looking to do at the internship (I'm having lunch with the team in a month), what should I ask in terms of tasks to make sure I have the experience necessary to spin it into a good story for sophomore summer?
How did you get the internship old-call? is it no-name?
Regards.
Just get on some deals where you're doing real work relevant to the deal. Hopefully you don't spend all your time pitching or doing database stuff. It can all be spinned off as being useful, but working with models and other things is probably the most useful. Industry exposure can be really helpful for future interviews as well.
It's one of the biggest if not the biggest in it's region but not too big in absolute terms. Any more advice?
