Speaking with HR about lateraling? Yay or nay?

What are you guys's thoughts? I feel like I could be shooting myself in the foot. Obviously, I would stress that I love the culture at the current firm I'm at, etc.

I assume you mean within the same firm. If so, I would first network with the group you want to joing, figure out if there is headcount and if the move if possible... Depending on the relationship you have with your manager I would even bring it up to see what he/she thinks. I would like to stress the "Depending on the relationship you have with your manager" part.

HR should always be the last box to check, at least that has been my impression in a couple of BB.

The most important thing with internal mobility is pissing off the least amount of people possible and, if you do so, make it worth it.
