SPL at AI Company versus Strategic Finance

Hello, I have an important decision to make regarding my future career path. I have been at an EB doing tech coverage and do not want to go down the PE route especially with Tech PE being in shambles at the moment. I have 2 companies that I am either in the final round with or have an offer, one being an SPL role at one of the big AI training startups and the other being a strategic finance associate at a large asset manager.

The strategic finance role is going to comp about 225-250K all in, looks like it will be around 50-60 hours a week. The SPL role I do not have all the details on yet, but they are quoting something like 150 base plus some type of bonus plus some equity. Does anyone have any advice here? If anyone has any experience with the SPL type role that would also be great to hear. Thank you!

Strategic Project Lead role is very bonus heavy if you are going to a big player (Scale, Mercor,Surge) or one of the hot startups like afterquery - usually bonuses will double your cash comp and that is before accounting for equity. I worked at one of these firms and can confirm it is quite a grind and your work is not similar to finance at all.

Work is very SQL heavy and you will be implementing lots of AI workflows to speed up your work (quality checks, analytics, staffing gaps, etc.). People are very smart but everyone is obsessed with AI and conversations are largely about the AI future. Definitely a lucrative place to have a career with lots of great exits.

Thanks! +1SB. It is at one of the big players. It seems really cool and def more interesting than the pure finance role. I am leaning in that direction but people have been telling me its very risky. How were the hours generally?
