S&T MD help get SA for IBD

One of my best friend's dad (who I have not met personally) is an MD at a MM (think Jefferies, piper, etc) on the S&T side. I am talking to him about the firm and my ambition to do an SA stint on the IBD side next week.

Other than giving my resume to HR, what kind of pull does a connection like this have? How can I have him help me the most?

Thanks

I am in a similar situation. I know MD, but he is not in the group I wanna be at. He has submitted my resume to HR. I was wondering myself what kind of weight it would have. Hopefully someone can answer our question :)

From my experience S&T MDs or BSDs at MM will have a contact or two at the VP and higher level. This is common if the MM bank does some PIPEs, IPOs, or Debt Issuance where the S&T Professional can give an idea of how the market would/is reacting to certain deals.

Sometimes though there can be static between IBD and S&T. Also there is a limited amount of interaction due to chinese walls.

If you know the group you want to be in stress that to your contact, maybe look up members in the group you desire to be in and ask if they are familiar or know those target contacts. With S&T you can be a little more forward and pushy
