Staffing Question

Question for people on the job - our team has a pretty big mandate coming through and I’m wondering if there’s a way to ask to be on it? Our team is a collection of a few different coverage areas (e.g. Consumer + Tech + Healthcare), and while I technically sit across them all as an analyst I would say I focus on one/maybe two. Is it fine to tell the staffer / VP in my team that I want to be on this? Don’t really know if this common and feel most people go with the flow, but it seems really interesting (read: lots of work) but the specific coverage area fascinates me.

I also lowkey hate the current coverage group I’m in but not going to address that for now - I can deal with it if I can have a mix of exposure. This deal is outside my current focus but still within our coverage group
