Starting a career in S&T

Hi everyone,

I would love any advice I can get, I have no family in finance so WSO is where I come.

I am about to start of working in S&T in Jan at a MM Investment bank but over the last year I’ve understood I’d much rather be in Capital markets or IB. I don’t know if I’m sealing my own fate by going into S&T rather than the other two.

What should I do to keep my doors open and move into capital markets or IB? Has anyone had experience in this?

“Thank you, Ryan - a very helpful session, especially for the PE perspective. We worked through my behavioural stories, and he showed me how to reshape them into one cohesive story of about 5 minutes, with more emphasis on the numbers and on my sell-side and buy-side roles. His tricky question on switching jobs was especially useful - it covers a likely interview question - and so was the buy-side vs sell-side discussion. On the technical side, we covered how project finance debt is sized in practice, with merchant risk, which was a good contrast to the availability-payment structures common in the GCC.
