Starting Off In MM IB

Fellow monkeys who worked in a MM IB

I got a FT offer from a MM after my junior year internship (along the lines of Harris Williams, Baird, CIBC, HL…) with a team got along with, an MD whom I look up to, and a team that really punches above its weight in the vertical I am in with a lot of growth potential

I believe I will get a lot of exposure to origination and execution, develop technical skills, and receive good mentorship in the bank

However, what options do I have when moving forward in terms of career moves (such as switching to PE)?

And by staying loyal to the bank, what options am I closing off? Any thoughts are appreciated

MM IB is a solid place to start. Unless you have a BB/EB offer in hand, don't compare "oh but would I have better opportunities there" - it does not matter because that's not in your group of options.

You will have plenty of PE exits - they will probably be MM/LMM rather than Blackstone, but that is fine

I recommend getting yourself some experience before getting too worried about what options you are closing off, if you should stay or go, etc. You will likely have a way better idea of what you want to do after 6-12 months, might really like your team or hate them... don't work off of hypotheticals right now. Be happy you got the offer, enjoy senior year and that's all
