Study Abroad or Terrible Idea?

At a target uni in London but I have the option to be studying abroad during my penultimate year, so I’d be overseas for SA recruiting. I found some old threads but wanted updated info:
Which London firms run virtual vs in-person interviews / assessment centres for SA roles?
Which firms, if any, will fly candidates in from abroad and cover hotels for final rounds / ACs?
Do banks discriminate against students on a year abroad?

Here's what I've gathered so far for ACs:
In person
HL RX
EVR
GS
MS
Roths

Online
Citi
UBS
Lazard
PJT
Moelis
JPM
Barclays

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know:

  1. Virtual vs In-Person Interviews/Assessment Centres (ACs):

    • Many London firms conduct a mix of virtual and in-person interviews/ACs. For example:
      • In-person ACs: HL RX, EVR, GS, MS, Rothschild.
      • Online ACs: Citi, UBS, Lazard, PJT, Moelis, JPM, Barclays.
  2. Travel and Accommodation for Final Rounds/ACs:

    • While some firms may cover travel expenses for candidates flying in from abroad, this is not guaranteed across the board. For instance:
      • Real estate firms and some other industries have been noted to occasionally subsidize travel expenses, but this is not always the case for investment banks.
      • If you're overseas, it's worth clarifying with the recruiter whether they will cover travel and accommodation costs for final rounds or ACs.
  3. Discrimination Against Students on a Year Abroad:

    • There is no explicit discrimination against students studying abroad. However, being overseas during the recruiting process can present logistical challenges, especially if firms require in-person attendance for ACs or final rounds.
    • Networking and maintaining strong communication with recruiters can help mitigate these challenges. Additionally, some firms may accommodate virtual interviews for candidates abroad.

If you're considering studying abroad, ensure you have a clear plan for managing the recruiting process, including time zones, travel logistics, and staying connected with recruiters.
