Summer IBD offer, what next?
Hi Guys/Gals
I've just received an offer for Nomura, but after spending countless hours on other apps, I want to see how the others do. Which firms (bearing in mind I've sent apps to virtually all of the most prominent CF shops) should I pursue the process with?
I've been given AC's at DB and Macquarie and think that after performing fairly well in first rounds, that HSBC & UBS final rounds could also happen. Haven't heard back from Americans or Boutiques yet..
- How does Mac infrastructure compare to Nomura (especially in M&A advisory)
Thanks!
From what I know, Mac is an infrastructure powerhouse. Infrastructure is one of the hottest industries in Australia, where Mac is traditionally from. Only heard good things about their infrastructure team, though don't know much about London.
Nomura/HSBC IBD > Deutsche Bank for 2017 summer internships (London).
Do not renege Nomura for any of the banks you have listed above if you sign the contract, not worth it.
Might agree on the no-reneging point - not worth it, for SA, at least.
However I would take DB/HSBC anytime over Nomura; I have a very close friend working at the latter and although they are still a decent shop, they are slowly pulling out of Europe. Another guy I know there actually got fired 6 months in the job, as they cut ECM & NRG. League table wise it is not even comparable.
From what I have been told Nomura has very low conversion rates for IBD in London. Maybe search on Linkedin for people who have done summers at Nomura in the past to find out more. If you want to do Infrastructure, then go to Mac ... Their infra team is strong in London.
Is it an exploding offer? Recruiting in London usually goes on until December, at some places even early January.
The stats they gave me in interviews seemed to show high conversion and I know Mac has high conversion also - so unfortunately that cannot be the decider. Are you aware of any particularly strong teams at Nomura & how they fare against Mac Infras?
Yeah it is, 2 weeks to respond (even though apps are open until December).
Nomura used to be strong in natural resources a few years ago but many left and there were job cuts not just in S&T but also in IBD recently. So not sure where they're still strong... Maybe FIG.
It's up to your risk aversion but you could reneg. to see if any of the other places would fast-track your application. I know of cases where that got them to faster interviews (even for people who were not in the process).
Hi, First of all, congrats! From what I heard Nomura is a nice place to work, they have the boutique feelings coz the teams are small, you won't be treated like a process machine like other giant banks do. Would you mind to share after how many days they got back to you after AC? I just finished AC last Friday, wondering when I should expect a result.
Cheers
