summer intern permit - VPN
hi all i have a summer offer and my bank requires me to wfh starting next week. Is it possible to just use vpn and lie to hr saying that you are at your home country thouugh you are physcially at somewhere else?
i was in a similar situation. my guess is that even if you use a solid VPN, considering the IT resources these guys have, they will probably figure it out... not worth lying specially since you might be breaking their protocols
so how did it end up for you? did you manage to fly back? I really don’t want to miss this internship opportunity thou but not sure about if lying is good...
they transferred me to the local office internship program... maybe check if they can partially or fully reimburse you for travel? they might be willing to work with you
A VPN either works or it doesn't. Whatever your "IT resources" are, you can't tell if the guy is really working from his home country or lying - they can at best check if his IP address is associated with a VPN server, but most VPN providers offer dozens of possible IP addresses and there's no "VPN servers IP addresses" list available anywhere.
yeah that is what i though as welll... i am probably gonna subscribe a good vpn server which offers me a list of ip addresses... from a tech perspective, do you think that work?
also even if i managed to fly back to my home country, i still need to use vpn anyway due to the great fire wall in my country...so in summary, a good VPN suffices and will work well?
Flights are expensive yes, but you’ll make ~11k woth 0 costs this summer. Fly back it’s clearly not worth taking the risk
tbh I’m from China there’s only have one flight per week from where I m rn.... which is nearly impossible to get the ticket right now would def fly back under normal circumstances but in no way can I get a ticket rn....it’s not about the money at this point anymore...

Can relate. HR told me luckily I'm still in the country I'm studying in (somewhere EMEA), otherwise, I cannot do the internship bc they dont have a regional office/license in my home country to transfer the contract. But could you find the flight to London instead?
