Summer Internship - DIFC

Hi everyone,

I've been contacted on Linkedin for an internship opportunity within the Investment Banking and M&A Team at DIFC. I've been interviewd only once, by the HR (ony by phone on whatsapp, no visio meeting) during 15 min. And then, one week letter, I received an email notifying me that I've been selected for the Internship (2 months - July and August 2024).

They offer me a salary of: 19 600 AED/ month for 25h per week, and pay the plane tickets and visa sponsorship (as I come from France).

I was wondering if it is a scam as:

- I didn't meet anyone  of the team.

- The selection process was pretty fast, 1 round, with only fit questions (so they do not know if I have any financial skills).

- The man who contacted me on Linkedin has desactivate his account.

What do you think ? Any advice ?

If anyone has done an inthership at DIFC within the IB & M&A Team, do not hesitate to reply.

Thank for your time

Well, based on the most helpful WSO content, it's important to be cautious when it comes to job offers that seem too good to be true. The points you've raised are indeed red flags.

  • It's unusual for a company to offer a position after just one interview, especially without assessing your technical skills for a role in Investment Banking and M&A.
  • The fact that the person who contacted you has deactivated their LinkedIn account is also suspicious.
  • The offer to pay for your plane tickets and visa sponsorship, along with a high salary for an internship, while not unheard of, is quite generous and should be scrutinized.

I would recommend doing more research on the company and the offer. Try to find other employees of the company on LinkedIn and see if you can get in touch with them. Also, check if the company has any news or presence online outside of the job offer.

Remember, if something seems too good to be true, it probably is. Always trust your instincts and do your due diligence. Stay safe!
