Summer Internship Resume/Recruiting questions

Ok, just a couple recruiting questions...

  1. Should I put the specified area I'm trying to get an internship in on my resume or talk about it in my cover letter? I think the resume makes it easier at first glance, but I've also heard this is a bit tacky.

  2. Can you get an internship in credit research as a junior? What are some other options besides the big banks where I might get exposure to FI products? I am more interested in research than trading at this point.

Suggest you talk about the specific area in your cover letter, the resume isnt the place for that.

It should be very possible to get an internship in credit research as a junior, you just have to do your research (talk to contacts at the banks & firms) to find out exactly in what division it falls into.

You can also look into working with S&P, Moody's or Fitch for credit research, they have tons of opportunities.

And at the banks, you can also try credit risk summer analyst positions, I did one and absolutely loved it. You get to see both the credit research/analysis and get to do some deal work as well, so it's a great place to be and learn A LOT, especially on the more quantitative side.

You can PM me if you have any more specific questions, etc.
