Summer Networking Event
I was just invited to a networking event at a bank in NYC. I was wondering how important these events are and if they are worth traveling a long ways and missing work in order to attend? Also interested in any details concerning how these events work and any other relevant info.
which firm if you don't mind saying? got an invite yesterday too, not sure if its worth the flight down
MS is having a private event, DB, GS, and Rothschild are having an event open to anyone
Where did you get in the info on the GS event? I can't find it on their events calendar.
Is this only for NY? Are there any events in SF?
FYI, invite was to a private event for a BB
Going to Professional Networking Event seeking summer spot - tips? (Originally Posted: 03/17/2012)
I am going to a major city business club luncheon later this week where guests have to pay $15 to get in. I am doing this to expand my network, but primarily focused on getting an internship this summer.
There may be a few people there that I have already Info Interviewed in the past and have some relations with, but I really do not know anybody.
Is there a good way to approach these things, and will professionals be nice to an undergraduate student?
I am not going to treat it like a job fair, but I am going to a bit aggressive and direct in asking about internships, especially with the PE groups and IBs.
Just don't be the annoying finance guy.
Connect with them on both a personal and professional level. Network as usual.
$15 should weed out the homeless, you've got a shot.
Is it possible to get an internship this late though? [Not including the little-known boutiques/MMs here btw.]
i'm only shooting for no name boutiques, small PE, and small value/hedge funds.
most of these dont advertise internships on their website or our school career website.
thats the way to do it. don't go ape shit, keep your cool, maybe meet up with a professional there that you know at a more personal level and ask if u can get a couple intros.
