Super interview day BLUNDER

Wow, I had my first ever super interview day for an analyst position at a boutique. Long story short, I told the cab driver one address and he brought me to a whole different address across town, in NYC, 30 minutes before i was supposed to be there. I am from a small town and have never navigated the city before. I trusted the cab driver to bring me to the location I specifically said.

So, I called the firm to which I was interviewing with and explained what had happened, they told me to get there,etc........I was 15 minutes late to the initial start of the "super interview" day. The first half hour was meeting and eating lunch with interns and first year analysts, this is the part I was 15 minutes late for. So I did not miss any of the "face to face" interviews with the higher ups, but the fact of the matter is that I was late.

I am freaking out because I believe this will be my only opportunity to put my foot in the door within Investment Banking due to the fact that I went to a non-target school, graduated a year ago, and have no IB experience. The only reason I got the first telephone screening call from this boutique is from a contact I met. I got through the telephone and one face-to-face interview with a MD before the super day, and now from this stupid accident, I believe my chances are ruined.

I would like to know your thoughts on how I will be viewed and if you believe this mishap has severed my chances for this opportunity.

Thank You

Take a deep breath. You're still in the running.

While it's certainly not ideal that you were late, I don't think the firm will ding you for the extenuating circumstance. I would just focus on impressing your interviewers. Your interviewers will not likely know you were late to the analyst lunch, and they have the final say in offers. Try not to let it get to you and affect your interview, otherwise you really will compromise your chances. Good luck!

thanks for all your input, it calmed me down, hopefully i get this j-o-b. I'm very anxious and I do not know how I will get another interview within IB if I don't get this..........any suggestions for a non-target, no experience, one year out graduate?
