Do something with your year off that shows you took initiative and worked your ass off. Make that the story. Eventually, you will be able to spin it into something proactive rather than mentioning it was a disciplinary action.

In parallel, network.

Highly recommend finding a lean team to help as an intern or joining a startup. You’ve been given rare freedom.

Buddy this guy who cheated and got suspended for year is not meant to be a in a corporate environment trying to tell him to bounce back and lock is dumb. What he needs to do is accept he's not a rule follower and began leveraging his hypsm network and build something that uses his ability to cut corners to set him up so he don't need to be in school or an approval seeking environment. I think we are doing him a disservice by telling him yes you fucked up and you needa fight tooth and nail to get into an environment of the most risk adverse people on the planet when you will naturally get other great opportunities  as well.

Know this is late, but I think the fact that he even got caught and his carelessness is still important to consider. What you’re essentially saying is that because he uses AI to cheat, he’s destined for more in a different setting, which doesn’t really make sense. It’s not the laziness that spells defeat here but the recklessness and implied incompetence.

Merely going to HYPSM doesn’t instantly mean one is capable. The likelihood is much higher compared to others, but I think ppl underestimate how many average ppl or even straight-up dumbasses slip thru the cracks here (maybe not MIT though).

Mane I’m not gonna hold you. You are leaving something out you just don’t get hit for a year for just using ai once you did it multiple times or you did it on something big. Either way  you go to hypsm take this as a sign school and investment banking aren’t for you use the network during this time and get into a position where you don’t needa do ib or go to school you go to hypsm you can do it. I’m saying getting suspended for a year from hypsm is a sign you a meant for better stuff than ib or following the cookie cutter rules of society.  From a person who attended stanny.

not the end of the world. Use the time to get internships, build something using AI, and try to talk to 5-10 people a week. Resilience is what determines success.

"elite HYSPM" just say you go to cornell lil bro

anyways, you should take accountability and network/do something before you return to campus. gl

I don’t think  accountability matters here. Yes this kid could say yes I made a mistake or also just see this a sign that’s  he is not  a risk adverse cookie cutter corporate drone build for consulting or banking.  If he doesn’t accept  either of those yeah it’s a problem but if I was him I’d seriously be figuring a way to not needa go back to college in the year. But I don’t think he did anything wrong he just gotta readjust the game he’s playing

Doesn't effect if there's no official statement or something about you being penalized (school website, registrar, etc.)

Just delay your grad year by a year and it's fine

Delete your school part btw, if someone saw this post and figured out a kid from the (elite school names) had a one year gap post freshman then you're cooked lol

Lowkey if this period is utilized correctly it could be a blessing in disguise. Other comments hit the point. Network your ass off.
