Switch to better company
I am will be joining a lower tier BB (think DB, UBS, CS) in their incoming analyst class. I obviously would like to be able to switch to an upper tier anytime within the first year to help with PE/HF recruiting and such.
How can a person do a transfer to a higher BB as an analyst? Is opportunities like this all publicized by word of mouth?
You probably won't be able to until after your 1st year. People will leave banks after their first year to move to the buy-side early or because they are sick of banking and 1 year was enough for them. I doubt you will be able to move in the first couple of months in time for PE/HF recruiting. Word of mouth and sometimes positions are posted. Helps if you know some analysts at the place you are looking to move to
don't you even want to work there first / go through training and placement before you make that decision...
this is just patently absurd
No, I think OP has figured out the game exactly. It's the same hell in either tier so he's trying to get maximal mileage.
What's recruiting like in the middle market?
he'd have to complete a year before that switching banks and by that time he'd already be going through PE recruiting... unless he plans to stay both years
