Switching IB coverage groups / geography?
Hi guys,
I am trying to understand how difficult it is to switch coverage groups at a bank after starting as a full-time analyst in an office, as well as what is the typical timeline? Lets say I start in a certain group such as GS industrials / Nat Res and want to go to e.g. TMT, how long do you typically have to wait / is it possible to do in a year if you really push for it?
On a similar vein, what is the typical time frame for transferring between offices, e.g. Paris to London? Do people typically wait for 2 years, or are transfers after a single year possible?
Any insights are appreciated!
Hi PEPlaceholder, any of these discussions helpful:
You're welcome.

Will depend on the bank/office.
GS in London but from my understanding in all major offices forces Analysts to change teams after two years when getting promoted to associates. If they want to they can change division if they prefer or offices on a need basis.
For changing offices it is usually after 2 years, although it can change sometimes if you are a top performer. You could lateral to an other bank as they often hire analysts off-cycle in your chosen city if desired so badly.
