Switching industries and need advice!

Hi guys,I'm 29 and I have no background or experience in finance. My background is in design (have my masters and worked couple of years in that industry). What I am currently doing: I am educating myself learning the basic concepts and learning how to create financial models. (is it me or it's really not that difficult!? at least in theory) .Also, moving to NY in 2 weeks. I am very good at math and I'm an excellent networker. Have some investor friends/contacts in NY already. Ideally want to start with an internship in investment banking. I know it is not easy, and people call me a dreamer sometimes, but I don't see why I can't break in! So I need your professional advice on what are the best and practical ways for me to break in.
