Talking with my MD

I'm approaching the end of my internship with a boutique investment bank and unfortunately there aren't any full time offers, it's only a team of four.

What exactly should I say to my MD to have him refer me to some of the folks within his network that may be able to help me in securing a FT position? I asked him last week and he said he'd help me out but he hasn't done anything at all. Should I ask him again, and what should I say? Or should I just hold off until the internship is over?

Go through the deals your bank has worked on. Know which banks you guys worked with. Then ask your MD if he knows anybody at that bank(s) since you are interested in applying there.

Your MD knows tons of people at different banks. Make his life easier and narrow that down to a few people. He certainly will not be contacting everybody he knows in banking.

  1. Give him a list of banks you are interested in
  2. Ask him if he knows any managing directors at any of the banks you specified
  3. Get contact information and reach out on your own unless he refers you himself
