Terrible Internship Options

Morning people, chimps, and apes. Regular on here with a burner account since I need to ask a quesetion that might be personally identifying. I've got one question that is straight and to the point. I'm in business school at the moment, MBA level (mid-tier South Eastern school)that heavily disrupted my recruiting season requiring much of my attention at home to take care of a sick child. As a result I applied pretty late and my options aren't that great.

Here's what I've got. On one hand I have an opportunity to do strategy consulting over the summer in Hong Kong. Fairly generic consulting gig.....strategy side of the house, two months, within the Accenture/EY peer group.

The other option is that I have a FIG research gig within a community lending organization in Atlanta. It's a prestige free institution and the work will involve some financial modeling and bank research.

Which option am I best going with if I'm interested in doing MM IB full time, with a willingness to settle for any other front office finance or consulting role?

Without knowing more about the role 2, I'd say #1 if its one of the firms you listed. In this case, it should be easy for you to get a return offer if you do like consulting and want to consider that route (in case you want to do PE later), and having a brand name on your resume will make more firms want you. Just make sure you have a way to spin the "why banking instead of consulting" question.
