Always send a thank you email.

Thank you emails are key. Some key points to remember:

1. Within 6 hrs of the interview
2. Keep them short
3. Always talk about something that came up during the interview. Best is to talk about one weakness and how you can improve that.

Within 6 hours of interviews, really? That seems pretty quick to me. I have been generally told early the next day.

Don't really think thank you emails matter one way or another.
