The Raine Group - culture, reputation and comp information

Has anyone heard of them? Any insight on their culture, reputation, and comp would be appreciated.

I met with the founder (family friend) and an associate there. Solid place - you would learn a ton. Cool fact: Ari (you know the Ari that Ari from Entourage is based on) owns a part of the company.

And, they pay very very well.

Raine is great for what it is: a media merchant bank. That said, you're right in that it doesn't have much recognition outside of the media/telecom sectors and well-informed bankers, and analysts there don't really get headhunter looks or have the same "post-banking" opportunities that are open to those at BBs and EBs because of that. If you do a LinkedIn search, anyone who's left the firm typically exits into media. You won't find anyone leaving for a megafund or even smaller MM PE funds.

So if you're looking at PE exits, esp. at the MF level, Raine isn't the right place for you.

Founded by former head of media banking at UBS and some other partners from GS.

They tend to retain analysts and promote them to associates. Kids who get in are usually very keen on staying in banking and have turned down GS/MS offers to stay there.

Nicest office I've seen.

Based on my impression, they might be just as prestigious, but I could be wrong, since it's so hard to find anything on them.

That's highly doubtful given that Allen & Co. has a 100+year history, while the Raine group was found...2 years ago.

Given that they're relatively young, looks like they did a lot of hiring at the senior level and raised a lot of money for their first fund.
