Thoughts on TigerRisk Partners

Hi everyone, I'm a non-target with a solid resume. I just received a first round from TigerRisk Partners in NYC. I don't know too much about them other than them being focused in insurance investment banking. Has anyone heard much about them or even about insurance focused investment banking in general? I'm mainly trying to find out reputation, culture, deal flow, comp, etc.  My other options right now are corporate banking at two BBs. Thanks in advance!

Wow small world. Surprised to see them mentioned on WSO. I spent time interning (really just shadowing) some of the guys at TigerRisk back when I was a senior in high school in both the Stamford and NYC office. Frankly I don't remember much, but the guys on the re-insurance banking team were smart and very nice people. I think some of the analysts were from Ivy and top LAC schools at the time. Rod Fox is a great guy and the culture at the time I was there definitely seemed to reflect his leadership, which was obviously great. (take with a hint of salt because I was just a kid, but that's what I gathered). Spent more time in the Stamford office. Once I got to the NYC office they just sent me home after 4 days to go enjoy my summer haha.

That being said, re-insurance is a pretty niche business. Re-insurance capital markets and banking is a pretty specific skill set and I don't think its that transferable to PE if that what you're looking for. If you want to be in that industry and have a specific interest, by all means pursue it. You're going to be working with mainly insurance companies and get a lot of exposure to the different insurance related types of products. But If you want the most diverse opportunity set I think the corporate banking seat might set you up better. No clue on comp or hours, sorry.
