Macquarie was (possibly still is) the #2 or #3 energy trader in the US and that work is done out of Houston. That work is not done out of the IBD division, but there are synergies etc. Their IBD team in Houston does mostly energy and energy infrastructure deals. Most of the remaining North American team is NY-based, with some presence in gaming in California.

I don't have a view on ability to move between Houston and NY IBD. Macquarie does allow and encourages a lot of staff to move around the world, so there is a good degree of mobility globally. But if you're a US citizen and your tax rate follows you around the world, there is probably not much incentive for you to work abroad.

Those who can, do. Those who can't, post threads about how to do it on WSO.
