Tips on converting SA to FT? How to prepare?

Hi all,

Fortunate to have lined up an IBD SA position with a BB in London next year. Been waiting a long time for this moment, and their conversion rate from SA to FT was super low last year.

That being the case, in your opinion, what are the best things I could be doing from now to put myself in the best possible position to convert? I don't yet know what group I'll be in, but would you guys recommend jumping on some of the Excel/modelling training courses etc to get ahead? Or is that jumping the gun a little?

All help welcome!

Ike

You can never jump the gun. You are competing with many other people who want the same job as you. Therefore, you have to make yourself stand out as much as possible by learning as much as you can (both at an internship and outside of the office), working as hard as you can, even if it means sacrificing personal things, and networking with the people that work in the area you want to work in, and making more than just superficial relationships with them.

The main point here is, you want to make then remember you, and not just as another intern who did a good job. Above and beyond.
