Tmt resources

To anyone in the TMT sector mostly tech and telecom: if you had to teach all the sector specific content, are there any comprehensive resources to read/listen to?

I read the news and have a basic intuition for tech trends (saaspocalylse, new ai models, memory) but I don’t have a deep enough understanding of the sector to have meaningful conversations w bankers which is the goal (want to be able to speak on everything from recurring revenue multiples to neoclouds in detail)

Based on the highest ranked WSO content, here's what you need to know about building deep TMT sector knowledge:

Start with WSO's TMT Foundation

The WSO TMT overview breaks down the sector into key subsectors you need to master: - Semiconductors - Telecom - Hardware - Internet - Networking - Software - Other technology components

Key Learning Areas for Meaningful Banker Conversations

Valuation Nuances: TMT is unique because valuations can range from "WTF was that" (internet companies) to classic DCF models (older tech companies). Understanding why certain companies get higher multiples than others is crucial.

Sector-Specific Metrics: Unlike FIG which relies heavily on equations and calculations, TMT focuses less on various formulas. You'll need to understand: - Recurring revenue multiples (SaaS metrics) - Growth vs. profitability trade-offs - Platform economics - Network effects

Building Your Knowledge Base

Since you mentioned wanting to discuss everything from recurring revenue multiples to neoclouds in detail, focus on:

  1. Revenue Model Deep Dives: Understand subscription vs. transactional vs. advertising models
  2. Technology Infrastructure: Cloud migration trends, edge computing, AI/ML integration
  3. Market Dynamics: Competitive positioning, regulatory impacts, cyclical vs. secular trends

The WSO content emphasizes that TMT requires understanding how different subsectors operate differently - internet companies trade on growth metrics while established telecom companies might trade closer to traditional valuation methods.

For the most comprehensive sector-specific preparation, I'd recommend diving deeper into the complete WSO TMT series and supplementing with current industry reports that cover the specific trends you mentioned.
