Too much banking on resume?
Looking at my resume, I am starting to think it looks "too" banking related.. I have an IB SA position from sophomore summer on there, an IB off-cycle position, and then my IB SA at a BB this coming summer that will soon be on there. On top of this, I am also the President and Co-founder of the Investment Banking club at my college.
Is this too much banking on my resume? Literally everything on there contains the words "Investment Banking" in it. I am starting to think this is more negative than positive, but I am not too sure. Thoughts?
You might come off as a robot. You should have some good, non-investment banking interests, hobbies, and activities listed. Or you could look like a person dedicated to IBD. All depends on who's looking at your resume.
If you're concerned with it, maybe try and round it out a little more personal stuff in your "other" section, assuming that you have one. Maybe some volunteering or non-profit stuff.
Personally I don't think it sounds negative though.
I have a lot of volunteer stuff actually. Should I just break out "Skills & Interests" to "Skills, Interests, and Volunteer Work" or something? I definitely want to include it if that helps, but it may be unnecessary to break it out into several bullets underneath "Leadership", if that is what you were implying. Thoughts on this as a fix?
You could just have "volunteering" in the interests section and then just go into detail if/when an interviewer asks about it
Alright cool thanks. Do you think that would look like a mechanical error if I have Volunteer experience under a column that is delegated to skills & interests?
I wonder how much this will help my banking-heavy resume anyways, since it is only one line
I'm not sure. On my Resume, the section at the bottom is has three parts: (1) skills, (2) activities, and (3) interests. If you do it like that, then you can include some volunteer work you have done under an activities bullet? That might look better. I used to have a philanthropy bullet under interests because I used to do this extra curricular that donated a lot of money to charities, but someone suggested I just put the extra curricular under an activities section because it looked better than just saying philanthropy in the interests section. This is a similar situation, so maybe try that?
