Top industry groups at MMs
Hi all, I'm relatively new to this site. Am currently working as a 1st year analyst at a boutique, and am looking to switch to a bigger boutique/MM firm. Was wondering if anyone is aware of what the top industry groups at some of the MMs out there are? I'm most interested in companies like Houlihan Lokey, Jefferies, Piper Jaff, Blair, Baird..
From what I've gathered so far, Healthcare at Jefferies should be solid since they're the former UBS guys? Heard Healthcare at Houlihan was strong as well. If anyone is currently working at these firms, or know people who are, I'll really appreciate some perspective
HLHZ is restructuring. Jeff is healthcare. Don't know much about the rest. Depends on what you're interested in.
Good to know that you consider restructuring an "industry group".
KBW for FIG
Ah yes, I've heard this one as well..
Well for Piper, they have a lot of their deals posted on their site. Just click on an industry, and there should be a chart. That should give you an idea of how they do (looking at deal size, and client).
HL does, too: http://hl.com/transactions.aspx?bx=93
Jefferies also has an excellent transportation group (trucking, dry bulk shipping, oil tankers, logistics) - I've seen them lead left on tons of equity offerings in the space, and we used to lose a ton of pitches to them.
Ah, also on the Jefferies theme - Quarterdeck used to be a top MM boutique that specialized in Aerospace and Defense. They're now a part of Jefferies, but I don't know if they're still as reputable as they were.
On Quarterdeck, it's based out of DC... interviewed with them last summer, its a freaking sausage fest... small office too
In London Piper Jaffray is strong in Healthcare. Don't know if it's the case in the US.
This is very good info so far guys.. Thanks for the feedback..
The firm I'm most curious about is Houlihan. They're a pretty sizeable mid-market shop, but outside of restructuring or even FAS, I really haven't heard much about their industry groups. Anyone with some inside perspective on them?
houlihan is got a pretty good aerospace team
anyone know what deal sizes, in general, Houlihan goes after?
if i remember correctly, anything around or under 500m is what they usually end up at. Of course, they would take on bigger deals if they got a chance though
