Transaction Banking to IBD?
Hello, I'm a sophomore who was offered an internship at GS's transaction banking division. I was wondering what the possibility of me internally transferring the next year to Goldman's investment banking division. Based on my knowledge, internal transfers get past the "fit" aspect of the interview, but still have to undergo technical interviews. I also understand that transferring into IBD can be difficult if you're in finance or operations, but since transaction banking is within the IBD division, how likely is a transfer attempt. Regardless of my ability to internally transfer, I still want to intern at the firm for my sophomore summer, but I'd like some insight to see if I should seriously apply to investment banking internships for my junior year. If internal transfer is possible, I'd likely only apply to a few other boutique firms that are on Goldman's level.
For starters Goldman isn't a boutique. It is possible, just network your ass off and showcase ur interest.
I understand Goldman is a bulge bracket, but there are a few boutique firms I'd say are on Goldman's level and I would try to apply to. I've already begun networking with investment bankers in Goldman, and I think I'll only accelerate this networking as I get closer to my internship. I was curious how I'd "showcase" my interest during my payments internship. I realize my VP's opinion will matter a lot, but I'm unsure how I can showcase this interest in IB without potentially striking a nerve (since I'd be asking to transfer out of their division for the next summer).
Isn't TB under the engineering division at GS?
