TRANSFER ADVICE

Looking to transfer out of one of A&W as a freshman. What are options that don’t make it significantly harder to recruit coming in as a sophomore and have a more fun vibe to them? (Not dead set on finance. Open to tech, quant, startup, and anything interesting.)

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some transfer-friendly schools that align with your goals and maintain strong recruiting opportunities:

  1. USC (University of Southern California): A west-coast target with a strong alumni network and a vibrant campus culture. It offers opportunities in finance, tech, and startups.

  2. Northwestern University: Known for its strong academics and access to Chicago's financial and tech hubs. It has a balanced social and academic environment.

  3. Georgetown University: Places well into NYC investment banking and has a strong alumni network. It also offers a fun and engaging campus life.

  4. Cornell University: Particularly its AEM (Applied Economics and Management) program or Hotel School. Cornell is one of the most transfer-friendly Ivy League schools and has excellent placement into finance and other industries.

  5. Indiana University (Kelley School of Business): A semi-target with strong placement in finance and consulting. Kelley also has a collaborative and enjoyable campus vibe.

  6. University of North Carolina (Kenan-Flagler): Strong recruiting for finance and other industries, especially in Charlotte and NYC. The campus has a lively and fun atmosphere.

Additional Tips:

  • Build Relationships: Start networking with professors, TAs, and alumni early. Their recommendations and connections can be invaluable.
  • GPA and Storyline: Maintain a strong GPA and craft a compelling narrative for why you're transferring. Highlight academic rigor, career goals, or personal growth.
  • Clubs and Activities: Join finance, tech, or entrepreneurial clubs at your current school to show initiative and build your resume.

These schools provide a mix of strong recruiting opportunities and a more enjoyable campus experience, aligning with your interests in finance, tech, quant, and startups.
