Transitioning to IB from Technology early in career
Hi all,
I am new and have been a fan of the content that is discussed on here for the past year or so. I am reaching out to secure some advice on how to properly transition from a Technical Sales Career Track into Investment Banking?
I have read the past posts which revolved around someone that was more tenured in their sales career than I am. In which the advice given was to try and interview at Middle Market Firms or potentially get an MBA for a rebrand considering he was tech guy in the eyes of banks.
I graduated in December 2018 from a Big Ten School think Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, and accepted a position with a core SaaS provider think SAP, Oracle, Salesforce. I do have various finance experiences with prior Wealth Management and Real Estate Development Experience.
I have taken the action steps to network with alumni to try and break in using the information provided on here. I did score a phone interview with a Middle Market Firm in their Real Estate Group but they went cold after the call. I have also talked with various directors about potential interview opportunities if they need coverage during off cycle times coming up in the fall.
My ask would be the best way to build out a high finance career from my current position while potentially keeping the cost of an MBA at bay?
