I might be wrong, but if you are working in BO and want to eventually move to PE or VC, moving to MO or a non-IB role is not exactly a step in the right direction. Why not work at your current job a bit longer and either try moving to IB or go for an MBA?
I agree but both those roles would bring him closer than staying in Ops. You may not be able to jump to the buy-side immediately from these two roles, but it would bring you closer to IBD and an M7 than staying in Ops.

Any input as to which offer I should take? I also wanted to add that I would be covering Fortune 500 companies opposed to working with smaller clients from my previous role. ($30MM to $500MM in revenue)
