UChicago

Hi everyone,

I am a senior in high school applying to colleges, and I have chosen to apply binding to the University of Chicago. If I get accepted, I have to attend. I’m happy with this,  I like the school, but my mom is unreasonably worried and thinks the brand name of the school is weak. She didn’t go to college in America so she said she hasn’t heard of the school till I mentioned it, and even on the rankings it seems out of place next to Harvard, Stanford, etc.. I keep trying to explain to her how esteemed the school really is but I won’t get through her thick skull. It’s actually beginning to make me rethink my choice- very slightly. What do you guys think? If my goal is to work in high finance ( I don’t particularly care where, I’m happy working in Chicago) is the University of Chicago as good of a school as rankings portray it to be?

Thanks and Happy Holidays

You will be more than fine for just about any role coming from UChicago. I would honestly worry about getting in first. Chicago is definitely not HYPSM, but it’s equivalent to or better than anything below that level. Look on LinkedIn. Good amount of alums across the board, particularly on the buyside
