uchicago vs. dartmouth vs. stern
My son is applying to colleges at the moment and he's currently interested between the University of Chicago, Dartmouth College, and NYU Stern. He wants to work in the NY/Boston area for IB/PE, but he is also open to working in Chicago, SF, or Houston as well.
Would love some direction on which of these schools is the best for that, since a lot of the forums on WSO about this topic are >5 yrs ago.

in my opinion, uchicago has both the highest floor and ceiling. stern has the 2nd highest ceiling and lowest floor, while dartmouth has the lowest ceiling yet 2nd highest floor
^ This. I know a couple guys from UChicago who struck out during IB recruiting. They ended up at hedge funds
NYU should be obvious no, good placement but not per capita based on number of people pursuing finance. I think Uchicago has a bit more academic prestige and smarter people than Dartmouth, but I don’t think one or the other will give a massive leg up recruiting.
Is the per capita bad even for NYU Stern?
It’s definitely still very good but I think you’re better off at any ivy or ivy equivalent.
Stern kids are monsters technically but that's probably a byproduct of the environment they're in. I've never met students more prepped for interviews and driven to break in (even over wharton surprisingly) than when I've chatted kids from Stern. Take of that what you will.
UChicago if more intellectual and Dartmouth if more New England prep

Dartmouth will be the easiest place to recruit from. Stern (and to a great degree UChicago) is super cutthroat about clubs… it’s a suffocating culture from the weekend you get to campus. Also both stern and uchi are less prestigious than Dartmouth even if they have more people in finance

Agree with everything except the last part. I would put Dartmouth and UChi equal in prestige and obviously both are way higher than NYU.

Chicago and Dartmouth are way more respected. If you want MMIB, sure go Stern, if you want maximum ceiling avoid.
uchicago without a doubt. would be sell if not. stern is second closest but uchicago all the way. almost guaranteed a chair in banking unless you hard sell.
For NYC, Dartmouth is the safest option. Its way too cutthroat at Chicago and Stern. Stern also just doesn't garner the respect the two other schools do.
Also the quality of people you interact with and the alumni network...Dartmouth is by far the best, unless you're very socially awkward.
