UK IBD M&A 12-month intern tips
Dear all,
I have received an offer for a 12-month IBD M&A internship in London; I will complete this between the 2nd and 3rd year of my degree as a placement year.
I have no experience in finance and I study an unrelated subject (Chemistry). I learnt about M&A through reading online, but I have very weak excel skills and no knowledge on how to do valuation, accounting, VBA, etc.
What core skills would the bank expect me to have? Should I complete the Financial Modelling courses/Corporate finance courses offered by universities/WSO? As this website is mainly focused on USA, it seems the incoming interns have a much better grasp of what to expect. Here in the UK, my friends joining banks for spring/summer placements have little to no knowledge on what pre-requisites we require. Is there any guidelines to help me secure a full-time position?
Cheers
Hippie
