Unable to create position...How do i go about this?

I had been cold calling and managed to get to a MM firm's MD. This MD (1) set me up with another MD (2). Met up with this said MD (2) and his VP. Both liked me but unfortunately MD (2) wasn't able to create a position for me but told me best of luck and keep in touch 6 months or so to see how they can take this forward. So I had no choice but to accept another offer from a boutique.

Just started off my first week at a boutique and I'm twiddling my thumbs, surfing WSO, with nothing to do. Everything's so disorganized. I am not getting any deal/modelling experience at all. I feel like a part timer, going around hunting for work around the office etc.

So, what should I say when I contact this MM firm's MD 6 months down the line? Tell them that heyy, i am working for a no-name boutique firm, in exactly the same position/title, at the moment but would still like to see if there's any requirement at your MM firm? Does that sound too crass?

Thanks for your help.
