Underwhelming Internship So Far

Hi all,

I'm currently an intern at a known bank in the UK in a small coverage group. Unfortunately, the experience so far has been underwhelming. Not because I'm not on live deals or smth but because I'm barely staffed at all.

Some days I get nothing, and I'm not talking "nothing" by IB standards. I mean nothing. The team is small and clearly underwater (I see the time sheet), but barely loops me in on whatever is going on. I genuinely try and be proactive, following the known advice of: asking for tasks, follwing up early, producing improving work product (not much to begin with) but I'm still just getting told "I'll let you know". Before ppl start saying it's because I'm unreliable, this has been the case since literally day 1.

I know of some other interns on the same boat while others are overwhelmed, and not because in any difference in terms of performance but because their teams just loop them in more. Meanwhile, I'm here reading old pitchdecks and fighting the urge of scrolling through reels.

Not trying to sound bitter or anything, I just don't want ot finish this experience having learned less than I could have.

Any advice? Should I keep pushing at the cost of coming off as annoying? Back off? Appreciate any advice especially from those who've been in quieter groups or had slow starts.

Thanks in advance!

TL:DR

intern at a solid shop. Barely getting staffed, even though team is clearly slammed. I’m being proactive, but it’s not landing. Not expecting live deals, but I came here to get crushed and learn and not just sit around. Advice?
