I was going through wso and came across a lot of comments talking about how Bath has a strong industrial placement program. If anyone is an alumnus or a current student there is it true? and do students get placed into IB from it?

Don’t think it’s Bath specific when it comes to industrial placements as so few places have a proper programme that’s part of the degree (rather than people taking a year out to do a placement)
Have seen 1st hand Loughborough, Exeter and Bath so defo happen often enough but as always competition is high and you need more than just brand name uni - the usuals like extra curricular etc etc
Currently in industry. It’s possible - seen it done for a few of the IBs especially across Lazard, Citi. Depends on programme however - BBA course has traditionally been very strong from what I have seen - from a placement perspective (6 months).
I would say however, the same applies for Leeds, Loughborough, Nottingham etc - not just Bath

The thing with placements is the majority of them are not front office. So you can definitely go for an IB placement (of which very few exist) but it's not going to be noticeably easier to land it because there aren't many around. Only a handful of firms offer them and there aren't many places in the programmes. 90% of placements will be middle office/back office stuff in finance. So that being said, I wouldn't rely on the placement programme to "place you". If you can get an IB placement then it's basically a golden ticket though. It would be incredibly hard to fuck up a 1 year internship. You have so many redemption opportunities. I don't know anyone who worked at a bank who didn't convert their placement.
In spite of all that though, I don't regret my placement at all even though it wasn't front office, wasn't a big name (although wasn't small either). It was a welcome break from uni and a time to grow up tbh. In fact through my placement I managed to score an internship in an industry closer to my liking. I will caveat that many people DO regret doing a placement year because of the aforementioned BO/MO roles, some of which are complete brain-dead roles.
Bath is easily the best placement uni though. Not even a competition. So you basically become a "target" when recruiting for placements. This especially applies to the BBA course.
